Update from the Mann Family...
March 16, 2011

Family and Friends,

I am happy to report that the overall health of the ministry in Guyana is good.  All 11 church plants continue to function under "national" leadership.  The goal, as it has been from the beginning, is to see a self-sustaining church planting movement thriving in Guyana among the Amerindian people.  I urge each ministry partner to remain faithful in prayer and financial support until we reach that goal.  To those who have stayed on board, particularly over the past two years, I speak for the Amerindian people, we are deeply in your debt.  The majority of our support team has moved on to other interests, while you have stayed by the stuff.  We are some years away from our big objective, but we continue to make incredible progress.  Thank you for being faithful.  Thank you for believing in the Amerindian pastors and their families who are encouraged and enabled by your support.

Pastor Alvin is in need of your prayers for his family.  His sister lost the battle with cancer just two days ago.  She had been in tremendous pain over the past year.  Alvin is planning to fly into the capital city today where his family has gathered.  His church, the Liberty Baptist Church in Yarakita, will appreciate your prayers in the absence of their pastor.  Brian and Winston from the Grace Baptist Church need your prayers for wisdom.  These two men are responsible for the weekly preaching and teaching in Sebai and the newer church plant in Aruka Head.  Recently these two men had a major disagreement which became public knowledge.  Through the grace of God and the power of forgiveness these two men humbly forgave each other and made a public apology for their behavior.  As it was reported to me by Pastor Paul...it was a powerful display of the grace of God!

Pastor Paul would appreciate your prayers for his responsibilities.  He feels very overwhelmed at times.  He has taken on the responsibility of working with and training Alan in Falls Top, as well as assisting where needed in Sebai.  His primarily responsibility is the Antioch Baptist Church on the Canal Bank.  His home has been deteriorating badly over the past few years.  Additionally, it is far too small for his large family (the home is about 12x14).  A church in South Carolina is coming in two weeks to build a new home for Paul!  Thank God for American churches who love some of the most faithful, dedicated and hard working ministers in all the world!

The work in Falls Top at Trinity Baptist Church among the Caribs continues to be the most "fragile" of the entire ministry.  We have one man, Alan Williams, as the sole Carib Indian that we can train  and equip for ministry.  Maybe you can try to imagine the target he is the Satan?  Without him the work among the Caribs would be set back years.  As I shared with you some time back Alan wants to get a boat and engine to bring a large set of Caribs to church who live too far now to come on their own.  Alan was so excited about the idea that he did what he felt he could do...he went into the jungle, cut down a tree, drug it out, and over the past several weeks has prepared a boat.  Up to this time, no one has responded to help him with an engine.  As I previously mentioned, we can get him a 15hp Yamaha for about $2500.  Right now the Cabibs who are not able to come to church because of this problem, are being "reached" by a group of Jehovah Witnesses that have moved in.  The good news is that they are still willing to come to our church if we can get them down river.  Maybe you can help?

Pastor Alan in Hobadiah, Heritage Baptist Church, continues to minister in Wanakai and Hotiquai.  The work in Hotiquai really needs a permanent building.  They have been meeting for more than two years without a church location.  The village has given the church land.  Ideally I would like to see a church that would like to raise the money for the building and send a team to do the construction.  Maybe you know someone who could help?

Pastor Norbert is as busy as ever.  He is responsible for Faith Baptist Church, Shining Light Baptist Church, and Amazing Grace Baptist Church.  Over the past few months he has been able to get into the local public schools.  This past Monday he called me to say that he has now reached more than 100 children with the gospel...inside the public schools!  We are now working toward a way to disciple these children, many who live to far to come to church.  Thank God for the freedom to preach Christ in the schools!  In addition to this good report in the schools, Norbert also told me how he was able to baptize 3 adults last week in church.  Please pray for Norbert's health, as well as the training of men to do the work of the ministry.

I will urge you again to remain faithful to your financial commitments to this ministry.  The ministry support level has reached a critical level which is beginning to impact our ability to do the work we have before us.  I can personally assure you of the productivity of your mission investment as well as the high levels of accountability I am able to provide for these investments.  I will be back in Guyana here in a couple of weeks for a short trip, and following that up with a more lengthy trip in May.  If you receive this letter and you are not financially committed to the work, we would greatly appreciate your partnership.  Just this week I received word of a family who has committed $100/month to help support our pastors!  If you send the contributions through our mission agency the money is tax deductible and it will go to the work in Guyana.  Thank you for all that you do!

Greetings from Togo

The congregation erupted in spontaneous applause as I was able to tell

them the great news.  God  has supplied the finances and we purchased

the church property for the Aneho church. We then spent the next

several minutes thanking God for what He had supplied. It was not only

a celebration, but a testament to God's faithfulness. A week later we

met and walked the church property for everyone to see.

We are now in the process of collecting teak poles, bamboo poles, and

grass thatch to put up an overhang. Though we have to wait until the

tomatoes are harvested to use the land, I believe the young people are

itching to get to work. We plan to get started in the next few weeks.

We have pretty much run out of room in our gazebo with an average of

60 people per week. I know we are all looking forward to having some

more space even though it brings new challenges.

I have been teaching through a series on leadership over the last

eight weeks in the Aneho church every Wednesday evening. We have been

focusing on the lessons that God teaches a leader and the preparation

process. It has been so much fun to watch these relatively young

believers start stepping up to the plate. I talked with a senior in

high school this evening who was talking about sharing his faith. He

has been able to see ten people trust Christ during the month of

September. The majority of these were fellow students, but one was his

younger sister. Melissa had three ladies approach her a few weeks ago

about helping with the Courtyard Kids. She is in the process of

teaching them how to work with kids effectively. God has truly been

working in these believers lives as now they are no longer content to

sit on the sidelines.

The summer is over as school is now back in session. As we look over

the "wins" of the summer, God has truly been faithful. Some have made

foundational decisions such as trusting Christ as their Savior, while

others are taking additional steps in their journey in the Christian

life. One mobile camp stands out in particular, where 37 of the 65

campers trusted Christ. The church in Kpadape has continued to ride

the momentum wave from this week of ministry.

As we enter the 4th quarter of the year, we have just launched small

groups in the Aneho church. We are starting with 3 different groups

that meet once a week. I will do my best to be in each home over the

next few weeks as they are getting off the ground. Thank you so much

for your continued prayers and support as God  continues to be

faithful to all those who trust Him faithfully in Togo, West Africa.

Marlene and I want you all to know how much we appreciate you all.  Your support and friendship has meant so much to us.  Our ministry is growing and keeping us very busy in sharing the gospel amonst the Jewish people and as well sharing God's Word with the true church.

We both miss you guys very much.  We are also thankful for all that God is doing in the church (Liberty) - it's exciting.
